Today, Hewa Bora Airways Virtual CEO, Thomas Mathieu announced it’s first quarter results for 2009.  In a press conference, Thomas reported a first quarter gains in profit and available cash.  The net profit after taxes was almost break even with a dividend of 1.04 USD a share.

HBA has recently added profitable routes and additional aircraft to it’s fleet to meet the passenger demands in the CAF.  HBA has also resheduled it’s lone 767-200 aircraft to Brussells and Lubumbashi as well as South African destinations.  HBA has added an additional 727 to service our domestic fleet market including Goma.

In Q2, HBA will be making an aggressive effort to increase it’s number of flights and improve service by offering premium on board service and improving on-time performance.

New routes opened as China Eastern VA purchased an used A330-300 from Skyservice. These new routes are Shanghai-Male-Johannesburg, Shanghai-Kuala Lumpur-Penang and finally, Shanghai-Doha, in service starting in April 2009 as the maintenance work on the A330, previously C-GVKI with Skyservice, is completed.

As it turns out, on the vast majority of routes flown by China Eastern, where there is no competition, the management deemed it was economical to reconfigure all aircraft, with the exception of the ERJ145, thus increasing revenue per trip from $1,500 on low-capacity, short-haul to $30,000 on long-haul, high-capacity flights. With the dawn of new IFE on business and first class, both domestic and international, we can expect China Eastern Virtual Airlines’ service to get better, not only on the longest flying pencils in service, but also in the shorter aircraft.

Finally, Xi’an Xianyang International Airport has been declared the third hub for China Eastern, with new destinations available from this airport. like Seoul and Hong Kong, flown with the A300.

Hewa Bora Airways Virtual has changed the seating configuration of 9Q-CHD to an all First Class seating layout and the registration to 9Q-ROI.  The Director of VATCAF (Sir Thomas Mathieu) will be using the aircraft to travel between Kinshasa and Goma on VIP virtual airline flights. 

Recently there has been alot of violence in that part of the world and the instability continues.  These virtual airline flights will allow officials to travel to the region to oversee the United Nations operations currently underway.  Goma (FZNA) is the airport at which Hewa Bora Airways Virtual lost it’s only DC-9-50 aircraft when it crashed into the mountain after taking off in thick fog.  There are more discussions at Hewa Bora Airways Virtual on how to better organize the domestic network of flights.
